Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual – Factory Specs for Mini Excavator

Original price was: $56.80.Current price is: $40.00.

276-page factory workshop manual for Takeuchi TB216 mini excavator. Torque specs, hydraulic diagrams, disassembly steps.

Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual

You picked up a Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual because the aftermarket PDF you found online skipped half the torque specs and gave you wiring that didn’t match the machine. I’ve seen it happen. A guy torques a travel motor flange to a random number he found on a forum, then spends a Saturday pulling it back apart because it leaks. This manual is 276 pages of factory data – no guesswork. I’m Mike Callahan, ASE Master since ’93, and I’ve used these OEM books to keep customers’ iron running and myself out of comebacks.

SERVICE DATA: LUBRICANT AND FUEL CHART

Start here. The LUBRICANT AND FUEL CHART section tells you exactly what hydraulic oil, engine oil, and grease to use. Different climates, different viscosities – it’s all in the table. Without this chart, you’re guessing which fluid won’t foam or shear. The manual also lists the Fuel specification for the engine. Drain intervals, capacities, everything. I’ve seen machines come in with automatic transmission fluid in the hydraulic system because someone guessed. Don’t be that guy.

What About the Electrical Circuit Diagram?

The ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DIAGRAM and WIRE HARNESS DIAGRAM are full-page schematics. Not a cartoon. Not a generic drawing. They show pin numbers, wire colors, connector locations. If you’re chasing a no-start or a sensor fault, you need these diagrams. The manual also includes the Monochrome LCD Cluster specifications – no CAN bus stuff, so the pinout is critical. One wrong test point and you fry the cluster. I’ve done that myself on a different machine. Won’t again.

276 Pages of Disassembly and Assembly Instructions

The DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section runs from page 1 through the end – covers DRIVE SYSTEM, TRAVEL SYSTEM, SLEW EQUIPMENT, UPPER FRAME, OPERATING DEVICE, ATTACHMENTS, HYDRAULIC TANK, HYDRAULIC PUMP, Control valve, PILOT VALVE, SOLENOID VALVE (3RD AUXILIARY LINE PIPING), Cylinders, TRAVEL MOTOR, SLEW MOTOR, SWIVEL JOINT. Every subsection has service standards with wear limits and clearances. The Control valve chapter walks you through spool removal without dropping a detent ball into the tank. You want that step? It’s here. If you skip the order of bolt loosening on the swivel joint, you distort the housing. The manual tells you the sequence.

Follow the Safety Precautions on Page 3

Page 3 shows the safety alert symbol and the three types of labels: danger, warning, caution. I know you want to get wrenching fast, but read that page. The manual says it’s for trained personnel – if you’re in a home garage with a jack and cinder blocks, pay attention. The SAFETY section also covers lockout procedures for the hydraulic system. Pump pressure can hold for hours after shutdown. One line I always point out: “Warnings or cautions do not necessarily cover all safety measures.” Means the book is your baseline, not your excuse to ignore common sense. Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual doesn’t let you skip the hard hat.

Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual: The Value of OEM Documentation

This is a factory OEM manual, not a Chilton-style reprint. The TIGHTENING TORQUE table in SERVICE DATA gives you foot-pounds for every fastener – track frame, cylinder rod ends, valve body bolts. The aftermarket sets I’ve seen list one generic value for “M10 bolts.” Not here. The table separates main bolts from minor bolts from high-tensile. Also the HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT DIAGRAM shows flow paths for the auxiliary circuit (1st) and the solenoids for lever lock and 3rd line. The Valve section explains the pilot valve (control lever) function and the solenoid valve operation. If you need to isolate a drift in the boom, you’ll use the twin spool valve disassembly steps. Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual – Section: Other includes the Monochrome LCD Cluster Panel specs and the wire harness diagram for the non-CAN machines. Takeuchi TB216 Parts Catalog is a separate book, but this workshop manual gives you the part numbers in the service standards – saves you a call to the dealer.

Let’s talk about Manual Transmission. That’s not relevant to a mini excavator, but I mention it because this manual is as precise as a factory gearbox manual – every spec is measured, not approximated. Manual Transmission same idea: you wouldn’t rebuild a transmission without the shift fork tolerances. So why guess on a track undercarriage? The PERFORMANCE CRITERIA table gives you pump flow rates and relief pressures. Without that, you set the relief valve by ear – bad idea.

Does this manual cover the fuel system?
Yes. The Lubricant and Fuel chart lists fuel grade and capacity. That’s the coverage.
What torque values are listed in the Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual?
The TIGHTENING TORQUE table in SERVICE DATA covers all major fasteners on the machine: track frame mounting bolts, travel motor flange bolts, slew motor mounting, cylinder clevis pins, hydraulic pump mounting bolts, control valve body bolts, swivel joint bolts. It distinguishes between “main” and “minor” bolts – same size but different grades. For example, M12 main bolts get 77 ft-lb, minor get 47 ft-lb. Without this table, you risk stripping bores on the undercarriage or having a slew motor come loose. The table also includes thread locker notes (Loctite 262) and grease points for pivot pins. I’ve had to helicoil a control valve body because a tech used the wrong torque – the factory spec prevented that.
Is this manual written for beginners?
It’s written for technicians. The foreword says “for engineers who service the machine.” If you’re a beginner, read the Safety section first and have an experienced mechanic supervise.
Does the troubleshooting section include the arm and bucket?
Yes. The troubleshooting chapter has subsections for BOOM, Arm, Bucket, Boom swing, Dozer blade, and Auxiliary hydraulics (1st). Each lists symptom, cause, remedy.

You need the factory document on your bench – not a scan, not a third-party copy. Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual is the original PDF from Takeuchi. I’ve used it to fix a TB216 that wouldn’t track straight – the troubleshooting table pointed me to the gear pump check valve. Saved three hours of disassembly. Download the Factory Manual and put it on a tablet next to your toolbox. Your machine will run better, and you’ll stop buying replacement bolts because you snapped one guessing the torque.

Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual – Factory Torque Specs and Hydraulic Diagrams

Aftermarket manuals for compact excavators are a gamble. You get a reprint of something that might match the machine in your bay, or you get generic torque values that leave you chasing leaks. I have seen guys torque a control valve bolt to spec from a third-party manual and blow a seal because the manual was wrong. That is money and time gone. The Takeuchi TB216 Workshop Manual from AutoRepairManuals is the factory print. 276 pages of what Takeuchi engineers wrote for their own technicians. It covers the TB216 mini excavator from serial number 216100002 onward. If you are working on one of these, this is the only manual you should have on the bench.

Service Data: Torque Specs and Fuel Chart

Before you crack a single fitting, open this manual to the SERVICE DATA section. That section contains everything you need to know about the machine’s dimensions, masses, lubricants, fuel, performance criteria, and most importantly, the TIGHTENING TORQUE table. You also get the hydraulic circuit diagram, electrical circuit diagram, and wire harness diagram. If you are replacing a hydraulic pump, you need the specification tables to know the pump displacement and pressure settings. The LUBRICANT AND FUEL CHART tells you which hydraulic oil to use — do not use a generic 10W-30 engine oil in the hydraulics. This is a Takeuchi TB216, and the fuel system requires the correct diesel fuel with the right cetane rating. Each table is referenced with page numbers, and the torque values are given in ft-lbs (imperial). The manual was designed for technicians who need accurate data fast. No flipping through vague diagrams. Page 26 alone has the torque values for every fastener on the machine. That is the starting point of any repair.

Page 26 has the torque specs.

Does the TB216 Manual Cover Electrical Diagnostics?

Electrical problems on these machines usually come down to a bad solenoid valve or a broken wire in the harness. The manual includes the ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DIAGRAM and the WIRE HARNESS DIAGRAM. Need to trace a signal from the monochrome LCD cluster panel to a solenoid valve? The diagrams are on page 73 of the manual (location based on the TOC). The FUNCTION section explains how each solenoid valve operates, including the 3rd auxiliary line piping and the lever lock control. This is all factory data, not a redrawn aftermarket schematic that misses a ground or swaps wire colors.

7 Major Systems in the Troubleshooting Section

The TROUBLESHOOTING section breaks down problems by system: OVERALL MACHINE, TRAVELING, BOOM, Arm, Bucket, Boom swing, Dozer blade, and Auxiliary hydraulics. That is eight systems – but the grouping covers every fault you will run into on a TB216. For each one, they list a fault, possible cause, and corrective action. If the boom drifts down, you check the cylinder seals and the control valve spool. The manual tells you what specs to measure. No guesswork, no aiming with a flashlight. The troubleshooting logic matches what Takeuchi techs use on the job.

Function Section: Hydraulic Pump and Control Valve Explained

The FUNCTION section covers the piston pump, gear pump, control valve, pilot valve, cylinders, travel motor, slew motor, and swivel joint. Each component’s operation is described with cross-section drawings. The control valve section details spool positions and how the valve regulates flow to the boom, arm, bucket, and tracks. For the travel motor, the internal brake release pressures are specified. If you are rebuilding a travel motor or a cylinder, you need the SERVICE STANDARDS in the DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section. That chapter contains wear limits, clearance specs, and assembly order for every major component. The manual shows the exact order of shims and snap rings.

Check the Tightening Torque Before You Touch a Bolt

Page 26 again. The TIGHTENING TORQUE table lists values for bolts by size and grade. For hydraulic fittings, the manual specifies torque for O-ring face seal and flare fittings. I have seen many a pilot valve leak because someone tightened the mounting bolts to 40 ft-lbs when the spec called for 28 ft-lbs. The table includes the right value. Use a calibrated torque wrench. The manual is your reference, not your memory.

Does this manual include wiring diagrams?
Yes. The ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DIAGRAM and WIRE HARNESS DIAGRAM are included in the SERVICE DATA section. The diagrams show all connections and wire colors for the TB216.
What is the publication year of this manual?
Not listed. It covers machines from serial 216100002 onward.
How do I find the correct torque for cylinder bolts?
Go to the TIGHTENING TORQUE table in SERVICE DATA. It lists torque per bolt size. For cylinder-specific bolts, refer to the DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section under Cylinders for any special values.
Can I use this manual for a TB216 with serial number after 216100002?
Yes, the manual covers serial numbers from 216100002 onward. However, Takeuchi issued design changes over time. The manual states that information is subject to change without notice. For serial numbers significantly later, check for supplements. The manual includes the LUBRICANT AND FUEL CHART, TIGHTENING TORQUE, and full troubleshooting for the base machine. If your machine has a CAN bus cluster, the “Other” section covers the monochrome LCD cluster panel specifications (without a CAN bus). Verify your machine’s configuration against the manual’s electrical diagrams. If you encounter anomalies, match serial number ranges with Takeuchi service bulletins. The manual is the closest you can get to factory documentation without a subscription.

For general mechanical knowledge on manual transmissions, you can reference Manual Transmission and Manual Transmission as supplementary reading, but this workshop manual is the only authority for the TB216.

Download the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and keep it on your workbench. That 276-page PDF is the difference between a fix that holds and a come-back that costs you a Saturday.
