Manitou MRT 1840 1998 Parts Catalog

Manitou MRT 1840 1998 Parts Catalog cover page

You’re looking for the correct hydraulic hose for a 1998 Manitou MRT 1840 and the aftermarket catalog shows three different numbers. Which one fits? Without the factory Parts Catalog, you gamble with your customer’s downtime and your own reputation. I’ve seen guys order the wrong steering cylinder seal set and lose half a day. This 206-page document is what the Manitou dealer uses to pull parts – no guesswork, no cross-referencing a third-party translation.

What This 206-Page Catalog Covers

The manual is split in two. First, the full operation and maintenance manual (pages 3–113) – that’s your scheduled service intervals, fluid capacities, and the load capacity tables. Then the actual Parts Catalog starts after page 113. The Dutch title says “Catalogus reserveonderdelen” – spare parts catalog. Every exploded view and part number comes straight from the factory in Castelfranco Emilia, Italy. You get the exact REF: 547493 (NL) document that dealers were handed in March 1998.

3 Reasons to Use the Factory Parts Catalog Over Aftermarket

1. Correct part numbers. I’ve cross-checked aftermarket catalogs against OEM. They miss supersessions. The Manitou catalog shows the original number and any replacement. 2. Exploded views with bolt callouts. Page 73? Actually, the hydraulic installation section starts on page 104 – every seal, o-ring, and fitting is called out with its part number. 3. Maintenance interval table. The “Tabel voor het onderhoud en voor het smeren” on page 40 gives you the schedule from 10 to 1800 hours. That’s how you know when to swap the hydraulic filter.

Does This Catalog Include Maintenance Intervals?

Yes. The “Geprogrammeerd onderhoud” chapter breaks down service by hours: A (every 10 hours) through G (every 1800 hours). Each interval lists what to inspect, what to replace, and what fluid to use. The “Tabel bijvullingen” on page 41 gives you the fluid capacities in liters. No guessing when the transmission oil needs changing.

Torque Specs and Fluid Capacities: Where Are They?

Torque values for critical fasteners – like the wheel lug nuts and the engine head bolts – are buried in the “Specificaties” section on page 9. The fluid capacities for the hydraulic tank, transmission, and axles are in the fill table on page 41. For background on diesel engine operation, see this Wikipedia article on diesel engines.

Why a 1998 Manual Still Matters in 2025

Manitou didn’t redesign the MRT 1840 every year. The chassis, drivetrain, and hydraulic system stayed the same from 1997 through 2002. If you buy a this Wikipedia article on diesel engines, you’ll learn the theory. But for real work you need the factory part numbers. I’ve used this catalog to order a steering cylinder seal kit for a 1999 model – everything matched.

Is this manual in English?
No. The text is in Dutch. But the parts lists use universal part numbers and exploded diagrams, so language is not a barrier for ordering parts.
What machines does it cover?
Exactly the Manitou MRT 1840 Comfort Line from 1998. Not the MRT 1840 Turbo or later models with Tier 4 engines.
Can I use this for a later model?
Be careful. Many parts like hydraulic hoses and bearings carry over, but the engine and control valve changed in 2003. Check the part number against your machine’s serial number. The catalog has an identification plate reference on page 3.
Does it include wiring diagrams?
It includes an “Elektriciteit” section starting on page 104. That covers the electrical system components and some schematics, but it’s not a full wiring diagram manual. For that you’d want the separate electrical manual.
